At Monzo, we believe that when people feel truly valued and supported, they can achieve amazing things. That’s why inclusion isn’t something we celebrate once a year, it’s a daily commitment we build into the fabric of our culture.
Women’s History Month 2025 offered us a moment to reflect, connect and celebrate. And this year, it marked the launch of something special: the start of Monzo’s Women’s Network.
The theme for this year’s IWD was #AccelerateAction – a rallying call to respond to data from the World Economic Forum showing that it’ll take approximately five generations from now to reach full gender parity. We know we have a role to play in changing that trajectory by attracting, developing and promoting women to help them achieve their professional goals, while supporting them through different life stages. In doing this, we aim to be an example in our industry and beyond.
Spotlight: the Women’s Network
Our standout moment this month was the launch of the Women’s Network. The launch event itself was an opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the Network. The Committee is now working on setting its north star and objectives for the upcoming year.
To spark feedback and inspiration, we hosted a panel of speakers who shared personal stories, practical insights and bold ideas for a more inclusive future:
Eileen Burbidge MBE, tech investor and trailblazer, reflected on her journey through fertility and leadership in the male-dominated venture capital world, and how inclusive health and workplaces go hand in hand.
Erica Handling, executive coach and legal leader, shared wisdom from over 30 years in senior roles, highlighting how inclusion, resilience and purpose-driven leadership have shaped her career.
Dr Nicola Sharp-Jeffs OBE, founder of Surviving Economic Abuse, brought critical awareness to how financial systems can perpetuate harm, and how we can redesign them with compassion and care.
Their perspectives helped us think deeply about what it means to create equity at work and in society, and why we must accelerate action.
“I’m incredibly excited to support the Women’s Network and help drive our mission forward. Creating an inclusive and equitable workplace for all women is something I deeply care about, and I can’t wait to collaborate with all of you to make an impact.”
– Stephanie Pagni, Executive Sponsor, Women’s Network
The energy and ambition at the launch set the tone for what’s to come, a year of connection, advocacy and collective impact.
Beyond the launch: a month of momentum
The Women’s Network launch was just one part of a much wider celebration of women and inclusion across Monzo:
Coding Black Females brought together stories from Black women in technology, focusing on career growth, community and representation.
Our International Women’s Day event opened space for honest reflections on the experiences of women in tech, opening up conversations around visibility, resilience and career journeys.
The Underrepresented Genders in Tech forum explored how inclusion must be present across all our processes, including during performance season, to truly make a difference.
We published our Gender Pay Gap report, continuing our commitment to transparency and holding ourselves accountable to progress.
Looking ahead: a 365-day commitment
At Monzo, we’re committed to building a workplace where everyone can thrive and bring their unique perspectives to the table. We know that diverse voices drive innovation, creativity and better decisions, and we’re creating an environment where people feel safe to show up as their authentic selves every day.
That’s what the Women’s Network is here for: to amplify, advocate and advance equity in the everyday. We know that change doesn’t happen overnight. But with intention, action and community, we can start to shift the future together.
